GLOW - International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture

I am very happy to be able to invite you to GLOW - International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture, which is taking place in Einhoven, NL, between the 6th and 15th of November 2009.

This years theme is “Being Public”, and in context of this I am making a project titled “People of Day and Night” which consists of two different light installations, one stationary and one mobile. Both will be interventions in the city of Einhoven.

Here below is some general information of the project.

GLOW – International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture
Eindhoven 2009 I 4th Edition I Being Public
Curated by Bettina Pelz and Tom Groll

Due to the dedication of CityDynamiek Eindhoven, from November, 6th to 15th, 2009, the city center of Eindhoven turns again into a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light.

The Subject 2009: Being public

The democratic culture considers the public spheres as the sources for the democratic process within a society. Publics are created by meeting and inter-acting of individuals in interest- or expertise-driven communities. Their agreements and conventions, assemblies and representation systems produce the public organism in which we live. „Being public“ is the subject of GLOW 2009 focusing - in the choice of artists and designers, parcours, locations and works - on the changing qualities of public spheres. Embodiment of the public spheres is urban public space as an open space without any access restrictions and as the space of open discourses and free shaping of collective opinions. Observing the ongoing changes in appearance and meanings of public space, gazes are directed to the fragile individual bonds to geographic locations and communities, to the segmentation of the public space by its commercialized use and to the missing link between urban planning and citizen interests. Present is a need for discussion and action, which is essential for the sustainable progress of democratic culture. To generate a public for these questions GLOW 2009 is an open source for collective experiences and a platform for shared discussions about present and future qualities, including their responsibilities and challenges.

"Aktion Auktion"

Invitation to “Aktion Auktion”

For the last two weeks I have been working on a mural which is a part of the project “Aktion Auktion”

“Aktion Auktion” is an exhibition project with works donated from 130 danish artists. The art work will be sold at an auction as benefit for iraqi refugees currently treated by deportation.
The purpose of the project is to give economic support to the the iraqi refugees and raise attention to their case and current situation.
Despite massive public demand to grant the iraqi refugees humanitarian residence permits the danish government has chosen to start the deportations of the refugees arrested in Brorsons church in august.
Last week 22 Iraqis were deported, five of whom were, instantly upon arriving in bagdad, arrested by the iraqi authorities, their current whereabouts are now unknown.
The rest of the deported are left with nearly no money, no connections and no knowledge of bagdad and a very uncertain future.
The deportations has forced the remaining iraqis to go underground, and they are now being searched for by the danish authorities.
They need support now more than ever.

“Aktion Auktion” is a declaration of solidarity with a group of people whom the danish government wishes to forcefully deport to a country that the same government has helped topple into war and chaos.

“Aktion Auktion” is direct support to asylum seekers who should long since have been granted humanitarian residence permit.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on thursday the 10th of september. From 16-21.

Høkerboderne 8, Den Hvide Kødby, Vesterbro, Copenhagen.

The artwork will be available for purchase via
